The Engineering Design and Realisation program will facilitate both undergraduate and postgraduate student projects in the UK to design, create and test high-quality technologies (devices, prostheses and orthoses) which would suit the needs of the children in regions of need.

Considerations of this process include:
Sustainability - The product must be affordable by the 'footprint' host country at the most economical price.

Maintainability - The product must be easy to maintain using the tools and skills available to those in the 'footprint' host country.

Regional Considerations - The product must meet the environmental, rehabilitation and cultural constraints of the region.

Quality - The product must have satisfied similar rigorous testing protocols as would be expected in the developed world.

As such, the demand is great, but this doesn't have to mean expensive; with careful thought and consideration, each project will achieve a cost-effective, functional result.
